Several long-serving community volunteers have been recognised for their dedication and leadership as part of the 2026 NSW Seniors Festival Local Senior of the Year Awards.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh presented the awards this week, congratulating recipients whose volunteer work has made a lasting impact across the Coffs Coast.

Mr Singh said the awards celebrate seniors who continue to contribute to their communities through service, leadership and compassion.

“I’m extremely proud of each of our remarkable recipients who really do go above and beyond to make the Coffs Coast community even better every day,” Mr Singh said.

“I thank them for their determination to make a positive difference to people’s lives and for dedicating themselves to helping their community, quite often putting others ahead of themselves in the process.

“They are all community champions who are much loved and admired for their compassion, hard work, humility and leadership.”

The awards were presented during the 2026 NSW Seniors Festival, which runs until 15 March. This year’s festival theme is Live life in colour, recognising the ongoing contributions of older people across the state.

“The theme for the 2026 NSW Seniors Festival is Live life in colour and that is precisely what our local awardees are doing,” Mr Singh said.

Among those recognised was Phil Crofts OAM, a long-time volunteer at the Uniting Church Soup Kitchen in Coffs Harbour. Mr Crofts has been acknowledged for providing support and encouragement to people doing it tough, offering both practical help and a friendly presence.

Robyn Rooth was also honoured for her work across several community organisations, including the Woolgoolga Red Cross Branch and the Probus Club of Woolgoolga. She is widely known for her dedication to local volunteer groups and community activities.

Marine Rescue NSW Coffs Harbour Unit Commander Jane Leach received recognition for her leadership and service helping to keep local waters safe for boaters and the broader community.

Neville Anderson and Jennifer Lock were jointly recognised for their work with the Woolgoolga District Orchid Society. The pair played a key role in Woolgoolga hosting the 23rd Australian Orchid Council International Conference and Show in 2025.

The NSW Seniors Festival is an annual statewide celebration that recognises the contributions seniors make to their communities through volunteering, leadership and community involvement.
