A man has been charged after police allegedly found him in possession of a firearm in the state’s north this week.
About 10.40pm on Thursday, 21 May, officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District were patrolling the Tweed Heads area when they allegedly saw a man acting suspiciously near parked vehicles on Minjungbal Drive.
While speaking with the 42-year-old man, police allegedly located and seized a firearm and ammunition from his pocket.
Further inquiries allegedly revealed the man was wanted on outstanding warrants relating to alleged theft and fraud offences.
The man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with possessing a loaded firearm in a public place and possessing ammunition without holding a licence, permit or authority.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division – Court 2 today (Friday, 22 May 2026), where bail was again refused. He is due to reappear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday, 25 May 2026.
