Driver charged over alleged hit-and-run following fatal Eungella shooting

A 39-year-old man has been charged after allegedly pursuing and running over another man following a fatal shooting near Murwillumbah last year.

Police allege the driver struck a 45-year-old man on Tyalgum Road at Eungella on 3 December 2025, shortly after a shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

Emergency services were called to Tyalgum Road after two men, aged 38 and 41, were allegedly shot by another man who fled the scene with a fourth man.

The 41-year-old died at the scene, while the 38-year-old was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.

Detectives from Tweed/Byron Police District established Strike Force Bray to investigate the fatal shooting.

Two men, aged 36 and 45, have since been arrested and charged over their alleged involvement. Both matters remain before the courts.

Further investigations by the Crash Investigation Unit revealed allegations that the 45-year-old man had been struck by a vehicle immediately after the shooting.

Police allege the injured 38-year-old man entered a Ford Ranger and pursued the 45-year-old along Tyalgum Road, driving on the wrong side of the road before allegedly running him over.

Investigators allege the driver pursued the man rather than seeking immediate medical treatment for his own gunshot injuries.

Following further inquiries, police arrested the now 39-year-old man at Murwillumbah Police Station on Thursday, 8 October.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm while under the influence.

The man was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Murwillumbah Local Court on Wednesday, 18 November 2026.
