The Ride the Wave Festival is underway in Port Macquarie, with the professional surf competition set to hit the water tomorrow as part of five days of surf, skate and music on the Mid North Coast.

The annual event, held at Town Beach, has already seen school-aged surfers take to the waves, with the focus now shifting to the Ride the Wave Pro Surf Competition running from March 26 to 28.

The festival, which runs from March 24 to 28, brings together athletes, musicians, volunteers and the wider community, while raising funds for local charity Make A Difference PMQ.

Member for Port Macquarie Robert Dwyer said the event highlights the strength of the local community.

“Ride the Wave is more than just a great event on our calendar – it’s a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose,” he said.

“Through sport, music and volunteering, this festival raises important funds for Make A Difference Port Macquarie, helping ensure people in our region have access to essential food and support services when they need it most.”

Surfing remains at the heart of the festival, with competitors from across NSW and beyond expected to take on Port Macquarie’s well-known conditions in front of beachside crowds over the coming days.

Alongside the surfing program, skate competitions are also drawing crowds, with riders of all ages taking part in events designed to be inclusive and high-energy.

Live music, markets and food stalls will round out the festival program, with a major Markets and Music day planned for Saturday, featuring local performers and regional vendors.

Entry to the Saturday event will be available at the gate, with proceeds supporting Make A Difference PMQ’s frontline services providing food relief and community support across the Port Macquarie Hastings region.
