Investigation continues after fatal Chinderah crash

Double demerit points will apply for the holiday season

An investigation is continuing after two people died in a crash on the state’s far north coast.

Emergency services were called to the M1 Motorway near Chinderah Road, Chinderah, about 6pm on Monday, 4 May, following reports of a crash.

Officers from Tweed-Byron Police District arrived to find a sedan had left the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver, believed to be 19, and an 18-year-old passenger died at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Inquiries indicate the sedan had earlier collided with a hatchback and a van.

The hatchback occupants, a 57-year-old woman and an infant, were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment. The van driver was not injured.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
