Detectives swooped on a boat moored on the Hastings River at dawn, arresting a 47-year-old man over the death of Port Macquarie woman Megan Tangye, eight months after she was found fatally injured in her unit.
Strike Force Hazen detectives arrested the man aboard the vessel, moored near Westport Park on the NSW Mid North Coast, about 6.30am on Monday.
He was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with murder (DV) and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV).
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Tuesday.
Ms Tangye, 31, died after she was found suffering multiple injuries at a unit on Gore Street, Port Macquarie, on 27 December last year.
Emergency services were called to the unit about 11.40am, and Ms Tangye was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital, where she died a short time later.
Police established Strike Force Hazen to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Port Macquarie Hastings Council rangers also attended the boat during Monday’s arrest and seized a dog that was aboard.
Police said in January they were treating Ms Tangye’s death as suspicious, following a post-mortem examination. Mid North Coast Police District crime manager Detective Inspector Mark Rogers said at the time that the nature of Ms Tangye’s injuries had formed part of detectives’ suspicions surrounding her death.
Ms Tangye’s half-brother’s ex-partner, Erin Reneye, previously described her as a beautiful soul.
“She lived a beautiful, colourful and interesting life,” Ms Reneye said.
“She was insightful, she was creative, she was kind. She didn’t have a bad bone in her body.”
