A man and woman are facing court today after allegedly striking another man with a machete on a Ballina street at the weekend.
Emergency services were called to River Street, Ballina, about 7.55pm on Sunday, 23 August, following reports of an incident.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 22-year-old man for a laceration to his right lower leg before he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Richmond Police District officers were told the man had been approached by two people on an e-bike. After a brief discussion, police allege the passenger produced a machete and struck the man to the lower right leg before the pair left the scene.
Police believe the pair are known to the 22-year-old man.
Following extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Treelands Crescent, Ballina, about 1pm on Tuesday, 25 August. A 25-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station, where they were each charged with reckless wounding in company.
Both were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Wednesday, 26 August.
