Four community members have been appointed to three City of Coffs Harbour committees, boosting the council’s specialist talent pool across the areas of tourism, disability access and ageing.
Council supported the appointments at its meeting on 20 August, following an expression of interest process in which internal City panels assessed applications from community members before recommending candidates to the elected body.
Tanya Watts was appointed to the Destination Coffs Coast Committee as a tourism industry representative. The committee is charged with helping guide the strategic direction of tourism on the Coffs Coast.
Kym Lindsay, appointed on behalf of Key Community Group, and Brendan Ash, appointed as a community member representative, both joined the Disability Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee. The committee provides advice and works collaboratively with the City to implement initiatives aimed at ensuring Coffs Harbour is inclusive and accessible for people with a disability, now and into the future.
Katie Hala was appointed to the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee, which provides advice and works collaboratively with the City to implement initiatives aimed at ensuring Coffs Harbour is age-friendly.
Acting Mayor George Cecato congratulated the appointees, saying the committees had particular insight to assist the City in serving the community.
“Congratulations to all of the appointees as these committees have particular insight to assist the City in serving the community,” Acting Mayor Cecato said.
“It’s great to have more quality people onboard, and Tanya is just one example of that after recently receiving the inaugural Outstanding Contribution to Regional Tourism Award at the 2026 North Coast Tourism Awards.”
Business Services Director Chloe Woodgate said the appointments followed a thorough assessment process.
“After an expression of interest process, internal City panels assessed the candidates and recommended these appointments which were confirmed by the elected body at its August meeting,” Ms Woodgate said.
