Local authors are being invited to take part in the inaugural Coffs Coast Authors’ Showcase, set to be held in November.
The event, organised by City of Coffs Harbour Libraries, aims to support emerging and established writers while giving them an opportunity to connect with readers and other members of the literary community.
The free showcase will be held at Yarrila Place on November 28 and will also be free for members of the public to attend.
“Whether you’re an avid reader, an aspiring writer, or simply passionate about supporting local talent, the showcase is your chance to connect with your community and celebrate the power of story-telling,” Mayor Nikki Williams said.
“Discover the incredible stories being created right here in our region, meet the people behind them, and perhaps uncover your next favourite read along the way.”
Libraries Service Leader Karen Rowe-Nurse said the event was designed to provide stronger opportunities for local writers.
“We’ve identified a need for stronger pathways for local authors and this showcase is our commitment to building a supportive, vibrant literary community,” Ms Rowe-Nurse said.
“If you’re ready to grow your audience, meet readers, and be part of a new regional creative tradition, we’d love to hear from you.”
Participating authors will receive a stallholder space in a market-style setting and have the opportunity to deliver a lightning talk about themselves and their work.
The showcase will also give writers an opportunity to network with other authors and industry contacts, engage with readers and sell their work.
Published authors across all genres, including self-published writers, are encouraged to apply.
Authors from outside the Coffs Harbour local government area will also be considered, although priority will be given to local writers.
The Coffs Coast Authors’ Showcase is planned as a biennial event.
“Coffs Harbour Libraries currently has a robust program designed to support and promote the literary knowledge and opportunities of our growing and established authors, however we also recognise a need to provide a way to support our local authors via skills development, visibility and community networking opportunities,” Rowe-Nurse said.
