Pickleball fever has hit Port Macquarie, with a three-day tournament booked out before registrations were even due to close.
PCYC Port Macquarie will host a Tier 1 Pickleball Australia sanctioned tournament at its 12 Owen Street venue from Friday, 13 November to Sunday, 15 November.
Registrations were set to close on Friday, 30 October, but entries shut early when the event reached capacity much quicker than expected.
The tournament’s registration page now lists 202 players.
Divisions run from under-14 players all the way to the 70-plus age group.
The action will be spread across eight temporary indoor courts, with a packed programme across the weekend:
- Friday, 13 November: singles, 4pm to 10pm
- Saturday, 14 November: men’s and women’s doubles, 8am to 6pm
- Sunday, 15 November: mixed doubles, 8am to 6pm
Every player is guaranteed at least three games in each event they enter.
Matches will start with round-robin pools, with the top performers moving into knockout rounds and battling for gold, silver, and bronze medals in each bracket.
Players will be told their match and court by text message, so organisers are reminding competitors to bring their phones, and their reading glasses, on the day.
Parking off Owen Street will be limited, and anyone heading to the venue is urged to allow plenty of time to find a spot.
