Autumn a critical window for farm management

As autumn begins, Local Land Services is reminding landholders of its wide range of services, workshops and on-farm support available that is tailored to your local region.

“Autumn is a pivotal window for landholders, whether you’re preparing pastures, managing livestock nutrition, or looking to invest in your natural capital,” Executive Director Delivery, Rob Kelly said.

“With landholders across the state increasingly drought affected, while others manage the prolonged impacts of flood recovery, autumn planning is more important than ever.”

Farmers can take advantage of the following services:

  • Support managing pest animals – biosecurity staff can give advice on the best control options for your property, support the coordination of group control programs and provide subsidised bait and a range of resources through the Feral Pig and Pest Program.
  • Agricultural production and animal health advice – with a network of veterinarians and agricultural staff, landholders can get the latest information on pasture management, crop production, livestock health and feed budgeting.
  • Natural capital and landscape management guidance – including soil health, riparian restoration, biodiversity projects and carbon-focused opportunities.
  • Seasonal events, workshops and field days – hosted by technical experts across the state, with in-depth knowledge of local conditions.
  • Native vegetation management and Farm Forestry advice – helping landholders to understand their options to manage native vegetation on their properties and advice to establish and manage private native forests.
  • Travelling stock reserves (TSR) – rangers can provide advice and options on the various permits offered for livestock to move, rest or graze on TSRs.

Mr Kelly said Local Land Services has more than 80 office locations across NSW, from the Blue Mountains to Broken Hill and Moree to Moulamein.

“Our expert staff are ready to support landholders to make informed decisions that set them up for the seasons ahead, regardless of the conditions they’re facing.”
