A man has died following a marine accident on the Mid North Coast.
Emergency services were called to Little Street, Forster, just after 11.40am on Thursday 23 April 2026, following reports of an incident on the Breckenridge Channel between Wallis Island and Wallis Point Island.
Police were told a 4.3-metre aluminium vessel, powered by a 50hp outboard motor, struck a sandbank while travelling along the channel.
A 79-year-old passenger was ejected from his seat and struck his head on the vessel’s anchor cleat, sustaining serious head injuries.
The vessel’s master, a 71-year-old man, freed the boat and travelled to the nearest boat ramp while calling for help via onboard VHF radio. Marine Rescue was notified and responded.
Marine Rescue volunteers commenced CPR when the vessel reached the wharf, before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and continued treatment. However, the man could not be revived and died at the scene.
The vessel’s master was taken to Manning Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and officers from Marine Area Command have launched an investigation under Strike Force Yozze.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
