Woman charged over alleged bomb threats to schools and airports across NSW

A woman has been charged following an investigation into multiple alleged bomb threats made to schools and airports across New South Wales.

Tweed/Byron Police District began investigating in March 2025 after reports that a hoax bomb threat had been sent to a school in Murwillumbah.

Detectives, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad, the NSW Department of Education and the Australian Federal Police, subsequently investigated 13 additional alleged hoax bomb threats sent to NSW schools between March 2025 and May 2026.

Investigators also examined two alleged hoax bomb threats sent to airports in NSW and Queensland, which police believe were linked to the school threats.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators from multiple agencies executed a search warrant at a home on Hall Drive, Murwillumbah, on Friday.

Police allegedly seized several electronic devices believed to have been used in the offences under investigation.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

She was charged with 14 counts of using a carriage service to make a hoax threat, one count of using a carriage service to threaten serious harm, and one count of possessing an unregistered firearm that was not a pistol or prohibited firearm.

The woman was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 1 today, Saturday, May 30.
