A woman has been charged with murder after the body of an 81-year-old man was allegedly found in a creek on a Teven Road property, near Ballina.
Police were called to the property about 12.10pm on Thursday, 3 September, following reports of a concern for welfare.
During a search of the property, officers allegedly located the man’s body in Maguires Creek, which runs beside the home.
It will be alleged the man and woman were known to each other.
A 51-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and taken to Lismore Police Station, before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital for assessment.
She was released into police custody about 10.25am on Friday, 4 September, and returned to Lismore Police Station, where she was charged with murder, domestic violence related.
The Teven Road property became the focus of a major police investigation, with forensic officers examining the home and surrounding area.
The road was closed for a period on Friday morning before reopening, while the property remained taped off as investigators continued their work.
The woman has been refused bail and is due to appear at Bail Division, Court 1, today Saturday, 5 September.
