Clarence Valley Council is inviting public comment on the draft Grafton Regional Livestock Selling Centre Future Options Plan, which sets out a long-term vision for the future management, operation and investment priorities of the Grafton Saleyards.
The draft plan outlines a range of options for the facility and provides a framework to guide future decisions on its sustainability, use and management.
Development of the plan included:
- a review of the saleyards’ operations, infrastructure, financial performance and market position
- consultation with agents, producers, transport operators, users and industry representatives
- analysis of livestock industry trends, regional competition and future opportunities and challenges
- assessment of asset condition, compliance obligations and future capital investment requirements
- consideration of operational and strategic options for the site.
At its meeting on 21 May 2026, Council resolved to place the draft plan on public exhibition. Councillors also agreed to consider proposed changes to Grafton Saleyards fees and charges after the exhibition period and before final adoption of the plan.
According to the draft plan, the proposed fee changes are aimed at improving the long-term financial sustainability of the facility by ensuring operating costs are fully recovered and funding is available for future renewal and upgrade works.

The draft Grafton Saleyards Future Management Options Report is available for download and public review.
Council is encouraging community members and stakeholders to provide feedback by lodging a submission through the consultation portal.
Submissions close at 4pm on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
