Two people have been charged after an alleged police pursuit involving a stolen SUV on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Police allege a Jeep Cherokee and a Honda CR-V were stolen from a home in Port Macquarie between midnight and 3:30 am on Friday.
A short time later, between 12:10 am and 12:30 am, a Toyota sedan and a Mercedes sedan were allegedly stolen from a home at Thrumster.
Officers recovered the Toyota and Mercedes in the Kempsey area about 2 am. Both vehicles were seized for forensic examination.
About 7:20 am, police attempted to stop the allegedly stolen Jeep Cherokee on the Pacific Highway near Lake Innes.
Police allege the driver failed to stop, triggering a pursuit.
Road spikes were deployed near the Bago Road interchange at Herons Creek, slowing the vehicle.
The SUV allegedly left the highway at Kew, travelled through several local streets and rejoined the Pacific Highway before further road spikes were deployed. The vehicle continued at reduced speed before stopping at Moorland.
A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.
The 21-year-old, who police allege was driving, was charged with:
- police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously;
- drive motor vehicle during disqualification period; and
- drive conveyance taken without the consent of the owner.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Saturday.
The 16-year-old was charged with breach of bail and being carried in a conveyance taken without the consent of the owner.
He was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Friday.
Police are still searching for the stolen white 2018 Honda CR-V, registration DXX47C, which was last seen travelling north on Macleay Valley Way at Kempsey shortly after 4am.
