Sawtell’s First Avenue business precinct is shining brighter following the installation of new festoon lights, with Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh saying the upgrade is a welcome addition to the village.
The project extends decorative lighting across the Sawtell CBD, replacing ageing bulbs and improving the look and feel of the village after dark.
The Sawtell Chamber of Commerce received $14,333 through the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership Program last year to deliver the community-led project.
“Sunny Sawtell has always been a great place to be – the local community is renowned for being warm and friendly and also for the staging of much-loved event favourites like Sawtell Chilli Festival and Sawtell Super Fun Day,” Singh said.
“The new festoon lights further enhance the appearance and atmosphere of Sawtell’s main street and they’ve already made a significant improvement to the evening vibe in the village.
“This lighting upgrade has been well received by local businesses and the community generally. It is the perfect fit for local plans to grow Sawtell’s night-time economy through a program of unique events and festivities designed to re-energise the CBD.”
Singh said the project highlighted what could be achieved through collaboration between the Sawtell Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and the wider community, helping strengthen the village’s business precinct.
