Ballina woman sole winner of $100m powerball

A day of strange signs from a late family member ended with a $100 million Powerball win for a Ballina woman.

The Northern Rivers resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1587 on Thursday, 15 October. She pocketed the entire prize and now shares the title of Australia’s third biggest lottery winner ever.

She was with her family when the news landed, and she could not believe it.

“What the f***! I’m still in shock. No, this can’t be happening!” she said.

“No, c’mon! This is bulls**t! Bloody hell! Is this my cousin pranking me? My cousin is pranking me!”

“I can’t believe this! Oh my god! I am sitting here with my entire family. I love that I’m around them right now sharing this moment with them!”

The family all bought tickets for Thursday’s draw, but she left hers late.

“They actually all put a ticket on for tonight and I had a bit of FOMO,” she said. “I only bought my ticket not long before the draw closed.”

“We recently had a death in the family, and I think it’s a sign from them; they’re so looking after me!” she said.

“We’ve had signs all day from them; things moving, cans moving, bags waving in the wind.”

Her family erupted in screams of disbelief and celebration as the news sank in.

“We’ve just won the $100 million! F*cking hell! We’ve won the $100 million!” said another family member.

“We’ve won the f*cking lotto!”

“We’ve just woken up everyone else who were asleep. They’re not sleeping anymore!”

The winner has simple plans for her fortune.

“This will help a lot of people. Not just me but lots of family members,” she said.

“I’ll be able to pay off my mortgage!”

“Now we have to see how we’re going to get the Moët delivered!”

“I’ll be celebrating with breakfast in bed tomorrow – scrambled eggs and bacon for me!”
