Motorists travelling along the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie are being urged to plan ahead, with road closures and detours in place for the Ironman Australia event on Sunday, 18 October.
The Blackmans Point Interchange will be closed between 4am and 5pm, with increased traffic expected to cause delays throughout the day.
Southbound drivers hoping to access Port Macquarie via Hastings River Drive will need to continue to the Port Macquarie Interchange and exit onto the Oxley Highway.
Northbound motorists heading to Telegraph Point will face a longer detour, requiring them to travel 14 kilometres north of Blackmans Point Interchange before exiting the M1 at Yarrabee Road.
Drivers will then need to use the underpass to turn towards Taree, rejoin the M1 southbound and travel approximately three kilometres to the Telegraph Point exit at Haydons Wharf Road.
Transport for NSW is urging motorists to exercise caution, follow traffic directions and allow additional travel time.
A full list of closures, times and maps is available through the Ironman Australia website.
Motorists can also check Live Traffic NSW or download the Live Traffic NSW app for updates throughout the event.
