After decades of talk and fundraising by locals, the Scotts Head skate park is finally out to tender, with specialist builders now in the running to design and construct it.
Five specialist skate park companies have been invited by Nambucca Valley Council’s infrastructure team to consider bidding for the Scotts Head Skate and Recreation Park.
Nambucca Valley Council Acting General Manager David Moloney said it was a highly anticipated community infrastructure project.
“After several decades of community discussion and fundraising efforts by Scotts Head locals, the Scotts Head Skate and Recreation Park is out to tender,” Moloney said.
“Council’s infrastructure team hopes to be able to award the tender by the end of this year and for the successful tenderer to be able to start detailed design work straight up next year.”
The skate park will be built on the western side of the Village Green, Adin Street, Scotts Head. Community consultation and a feasibility study found it was the best location.
The project has been on the drawing board for about five years.
Since Council won the grant to build it in late 2025, a procurement plan has been completed.
In the middle of this year, Council surveyed the Scotts Head Kickflip Committee and a few other local skaters to find out which skate park features they would like to see.
But skaters hoping for extra comforts will have to wait.
Skaters said they would prefer to have amenities near the skate park, such as shade, seating, and a drinking water fountain.
However, these are not covered by the grant, which is to build the skate park only, and will not be delivered as part of the Scotts Head Skate and Recreation Park project.
Council will consider these extra amenities when it assesses future grant funding opportunities from both the Australian and NSW governments.
The skate park is being delivered through a 50-50 partnership with the NSW Government, which is investing $255,578 through an Infrastructure Grant. Council and community donations are matching that amount.
“I want to thank the NSW Government for awarding this project an Infrastructure Grant worth $255,578 and the Scotts Head community for their own generous donations toward the project,” Moloney said.
