Construction has begun on the relocation and major expansion of Lennox Head Public School on the NSW North Coast, with the State Government promising a significantly larger campus and a co-located public preschool.
The new school is being built on a site at the corner of Montwood and Snapper Drive and is expected to be completed in 2027.
Once finished, the campus will have capacity for more than 550 students. The redevelopment will triple the number of permanent classrooms from eight to 24 and include a library, canteen, school hall, and games court with a covered outdoor learning area.
The project also includes a co-located public preschool expected to accommodate up to 120 children a week, part of the NSW government’s commitment to build 100 public preschools by 2027.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said the project would expand education capacity in a rapidly growing community.
“The Minns Labor Government is committed to ensuring regional school communities have access to high-quality classrooms and facilities,” she said.
“Relocating Lennox Head Public School and tripling its capacity represents a major investment in the North Coast’s future.”
“This is a long-awaited milestone for local families, ensuring students from preschool to Year 6 have access to the very best learning environment close to home.”
The government said the upgrade forms part of a $9 billion investment in school infrastructure across NSW, including $2.1 billion allocated to regional areas.
Minister for the North Coast Janelle Saffin said the project would support the region’s growing population.
“I’m thrilled to welcome the start of construction on the new Lennox Head Public School and public preschool,” she said.
“We aren’t just building classrooms; we are building the infrastructure a growing North Coast community actually needs. This project ensures our kids aren’t left behind in demountables, but instead have world-class facilities to learn and grow in.”
“This is what happens when you have a government that prioritises regional education and follows through on its commitments to the people of Lennox Head.”
Ballina MP Tamara Smith said the redevelopment would deliver a modern learning environment for local students.
“The school will provide a modern environment for our children to learn in for many years to come,” she said.
“I want to thank the community for their continued support and patience as we bring this important project to life.”
Lennox Head Public School principal Deborah Langfield said the start of construction marked an important moment for the school community.
“We’re incredibly excited to see construction begin on our new school. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our students, staff, and community,” she said.
“We are grateful for the dedication and collaboration of everyone involved and can’t wait to watch our new school take shape.”
