More than 400 Elders gather in Yamba for 24th Aboriginal Elders Olympics

Hundreds of Aboriginal Elders from across NSW have gathered to compete in the 24th annual Aboriginal Elders Olympics on Yaegl Country in Yamba.

More than 400 Elders are expected to attend the two-day event at the Raymond Laurie Sports Centre, where teams from communities across NSW will take part in a series of friendly sporting activities. The winning team will be crowned premiers of the 2026 Elders Olympics and earn the right to host the 2027 event.

The event is supported by the NSW Aboriginal Land Council and Biirrinba Aboriginal Corporation.

Participants will compete in a number of activities, including netball hoops, egg-and-spoon races, hockey-stick bends, football tosses, ball bounces, kickball, putt-putt, and quoits.

Organisers say the Aboriginal Elders Olympics is about more than sport, providing an opportunity to celebrate the strength, resilience and culture of Aboriginal Elders while bringing communities together through connection and friendly competition.
