In the heart of Gloucester, a once-disused garden centre has been transformed into a thriving hub of creativity, connection and community.
Gloucester Creatives has quickly become a focal point for locals and visitors alike, bringing together artists, makers and community groups in a space designed to inspire and collaborate.
“When the idea of forming a cooperative of creatives in Gloucester was proposed in 2023 we were overwhelmed by the local’s response. People were excited to come together to share their many varied skills, to learn and to support one another, ” said Tracey Murrell, President of the Gloucester Creatives co-operative.

“Then the disused former Garden Centre site became available and “Gloucester Creatives” was born in April 2024.”
Since opening, the site has evolved into a dynamic creative precinct, anchored by a vibrant sales space showcasing the work of more than 70 local members.
“The site has been transformed into a sales gallery, with a kaleidoscope of items from over 70 of our members,” she said.
“There’s a space for workshops, community group meetings and a beautiful outdoor courtyard garden area for events with a performance stage. “Creative Grounds” run our courtyard coffee cart which has become a popular local meeting point.”

From handcrafted jewellery and ceramics to preserves, clothing and woodwork, the range of locally made products reflects the diversity and talent within the Gloucester community.
“Gloucester Creatives sales gallery showcases an amazing variety of products all made by local community members.”
“Our range includes: art, jewellery, preserves, plants, ceramics, clothing, cosmetics, macrame, knitting/crochet, floral arrangements, woodwork and is constantly expanding driven by our talented members creativity and imaginations,” Ms Murrell said.
At its core, Gloucester Creatives is about connection. As a not-for-profit co-operative run entirely by volunteers, it provides a welcoming space where people can learn new skills, share ideas and support one another.

That community focus is reflected in a packed calendar of events and activities catering to all ages and interests. Regular workshops, markets and creative sessions ensure there is always something happening on site.
“We host a “Sprinkle and Splatter” weekly kid’s craft for 5-11 year olds and a Kids Art Group for 11+ during term; Trash and Treasure markets; bi monthly “Fresh Sounds” music open mics & informal pottery sessions for artisans to connect.”

“The local Camera Club, Writer’s Group and “Artists At Play” also hold their regular meetings at Gloucester Creatives and many local groups use our grounds to meet up and chat – Exercise Class and Yoga, Book Clubs, Dementia Support group to name just a few,” Ms Murrell said.
The result is a space that continues to grow and evolve, shaped by the creativity of the members of Gloucester Creatives and the strong community spirit behind it.
