A driver has been charged after allegedly crashing into another vehicle and fleeing the scene before returning a high-range alcohol reading and testing positive to drugs at Tweed Heads.
Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling Hill Street about 3pm on Sunday 3 March 2026 when they were alerted to a blue SUV being driven dangerously after it had struck another vehicle.
Police located and stopped the vehicle a short time later on Wharf Street, where they spoke with the 26-year-old driver.
He underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result. The man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where a secondary breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.181.
Police will also allege the man tested positive to both cannabis and cocaine during an oral fluid test.
Officers will allege the driver failed to stop and exchange details after colliding with another vehicle twice, before driving away in a dangerous manner.
The man has been charged with driving with high-range PCA and illicit drug, driving recklessly in a manner dangerous, and failing to give particulars to another driver.
He was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 1 June 2026.
