Man charged after $9 million cocaine haul seized on Mid North Coast

A 28-year-old man is due to face court after police allegedly seized 30 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $9 million, during a vehicle stop near Forster on Thursday.

Police said Manning-Great Lakes Highway Patrol officers stopped a Pantech truck on the Pacific Highway at Failford, about 5km north of Nabiac, at about 10.30am on 29 May.

Officers allegedly established the driver’s licence had been suspended before conducting a search of the vehicle.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized about 30kg of cocaine, electronic devices and $1,302 in cash.

The driver was arrested and taken to Forster Police Station.

He was charged with:

  • Supplying a prohibited drug in a quantity greater than or equal to a large commercial quantity;
  • Recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime valued at $5,000 or less;
  • Possessing a prohibited drug; and
  • Driving while visiting driver privileges were withdrawn.

The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Friday.
