Kyogle Council has adopted its 2026–27 budget, with Mayor Danielle Mulholland saying it demonstrates a commitment to strengthening essential services, addressing emerging needs and preparing the local government area for future growth.
“Council is laying the groundwork for the future with this budget,” Mulholland said.
“Council wants to secure a future where our infrastructure keeps pace with community needs and where the Kyogle LGA continues to attract people seeking both lifestyle and opportunity.”
The $64.6 million budget was unanimously adopted at Council’s June meeting on Tuesday, 9 June. It includes an allocation of $5 million over the next two years to accelerate Council’s water main replacement program and address ongoing issues with discoloured water.
The funding will allow Council to progressively replace ageing and problematic water mains, most of which are cast-iron pipes.
New water mains have already been installed in Roxy Lane and Gardener Lane. Works are scheduled next for Bundock Lane and Bundock Street, Morphett Street, Campbell Road North (between Morphett Street and Kyogle Road), and Fairy Street. A further 32 sites will be scheduled for replacement works after that.
Key initiatives included in the adopted budget are:
- Almost $10 million for roads and bridges, including $2 million for Clarence Way in 2026–27 and a further $3 million in the forward estimates.
- $1.013 million for parks, gardens and village maintenance.
- $191,000 for heavy patching and road resealing in Woodenbong, Bonalbo and other villages.
- $7 million in 2026–27, and a further $17 million in the forward estimates, for construction of a new sewerage treatment plant in Kyogle.
- $1.793 million for landfill improvements and quarry rehabilitation works.
- $992,300 for community and cultural services, including the Roxy Gallery, the Visitor Information Centre and community services.
- $187,146 in financial assistance and community donations.
- $614,285 for library and mobile library services.
- $4 million in the forward estimates for main street upgrades in villages across the local government area.
- $13.5 million in the forward estimates for sewerage schemes at Tabulam, Mallanganee and Wiangaree.
The budget outlines Council’s planned investment across infrastructure, community services and essential utilities over the coming years, with a focus on maintaining and improving assets while supporting future development across the Kyogle local government area.
