The Northern Rivers community is being encouraged to swap business attire, school uniforms, sporting jerseys and everyday clothes for tutus on Friday, 31 July, to help raise funds for Our Kids.
First launched last year, Tutu Day quickly gained community support, with local clubs, businesses and organisations embracing the fundraising initiative to help provide vital paediatric medical equipment for the region.
Early supporters include Ballina RSL Club, Cherry Street Sports Club, Ballina Golf Club, Lismore Workers Club, Club Lennox, Ballina Shire Mayor Sharon Cadwallader, Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg, Cyberry and the Our Kids team.
The campaign has continued to grow, with more businesses, workplaces, schools, sporting clubs and community groups expected to take part this year.
“Our vision is to see Tutu Day become a Northern Rivers tradition,” said Rebekka Battista Our Kids Fundraising Coordinator.
“We’d love to see people wearing tutus in every workplace, every school, every sporting club and every community group across the region. The more people who get involved, the more we can do to support local sick children and their families.
“Whether you’re at work, school, the gym, playing a team sport or catching up with friends, we encourage everyone to join in. Wear a tutu on Friday 31 July or anytime that week and let’s spread some tutu love throughout the Northern Rivers!”
Participants can register individually or form teams with colleagues, classmates, friends or family. Fundraising can be as simple as making a gold coin donation to wear a tutu or encouraging others to sponsor their participation.
Funds raised through the campaign will help Our Kids purchase paediatric medical equipment, enabling children in the Northern Rivers to receive care closer to home. The campaign also aims to raise awareness while bringing the community together through a fun and colourful fundraising event.
