Clarence Valley Council, Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation and Connect You Too have launched the Townsend Collective project, marking the next step in creating a community precinct that will provide new services, shared spaces and opportunities for people across the Lower Clarence.
The project is being delivered through a partnership between the three organisations to strengthen community wellbeing, improve social connection and increase access to essential services for residents of all ages.
The Townsend Collective Masterplan includes a new car park, accessible pathways, a tree-lined central walkway featuring community artwork, community hire spaces, an amphitheatre with a stage and barbecue area, a recreation precinct and nature-based play areas. The precinct will also bring together education, cultural, recreation and community services in one accessible location, creating a welcoming place for residents to gather, connect and participate.

Clarence Valley Council General Manager Laura Black said the Townsend Collective would transform Jubilee Street Reserve into an inclusive community hub for the Lower Clarence.
“The Townsend Collective has been shaped through collaboration between community, Council and partner organisations.
“We started community consultation in 2023, where community members identified opportunities for the Jubilee Street Reserve, shaping a place that supports Townsend and the surrounding towns.
“Together with Mudyala and Connect You Too, we’re creating inclusive opportunities for people of all ages to connect, learn and thrive.”
As part of the partnership, Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation will deliver a Bakarindi Bushfood Café, a Mudyala Community Preschool and a Mudyala Cultural Hub, expanding access to early learning, cultural experiences and community programs.
Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation founder and chief executive officer Aneika Kapeen said the project represented an important milestone for the Clarence Valley, creating new opportunities for children, young people and families.
“We are grateful to be part of such an amazing project that will allow our children and youth programs to grow and thrive for the benefit of the entire community.
“This is the first of many milestones and will be the first of its kind in the Clarence Valley.“
Connect You Too will also establish a new centre as part of the project, providing transport, meal delivery and other community support services to help meet the growing needs of older residents and improve access to support across the community.
Connect You Too General Manager Kerry Little said the organisation was pleased to partner with Council and Mudyala on the project.
“The new Centre will enable Connect You Too to expand its services and better meet the growing aged care needs of our communities.
“We look forward to creating a welcoming space where people can connect, participate and access the support they need.”
