Surf Life Saving clubs across the NSW Mid North and North Coast are being encouraged to apply for a share of $5.5 million through the NSW Government’s Surf Club Facility Program to upgrade, rebuild or improve facilities that support beach safety.
The program offers grants of up to $1 million across three funding categories, supporting projects from planning and design through to construction and completion.
The 2026 funding round has a strong focus on climate resilience, helping clubs better withstand extreme weather and severe storm events. It also aims to improve participation by supporting more people from diverse backgrounds to become involved in surf lifesaving.
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said the funding would help ensure surf clubs remain equipped to support volunteers and local communities.
“Our surf life savers turn up rain, hail or shine. This funding makes sure their clubs can too,” Kamper said.
He said the program would deliver “storm-proofed clubhouses, more volunteers through the door, safer beaches for everyone. That’s what this program delivers.”
Kamper said the investment would benefit clubs across the state.
“From the Northern Rivers to the South Coast, we’re backing the clubs that keep our beaches safe all year round.”
Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib said the funding would strengthen surf lifesaving capability ahead of the next patrol season.
“As we prepare for the upcoming patrol season, this program, alongside other recent investments in surf lifesaving, means our dedicated volunteers can continue their incredible work of protecting beachgoers along the NSW coast.”
Surf Life Saving NSW President Elissa Hancock said the organisation’s network of volunteers continued to play an important role in communities across the state.
“Surf Life Saving NSW is proud to boast a passionate and ever-growing membership base of over 86,000 across the state who volunteer their time for the benefit of their communities,” Hancock said.
She said the grants would help provide “safe, secure and accessible facilities” for volunteers and the communities they serve.
“Programs such as this one allow us to provide safe, secure and accessible facilities to those members and the communities they protect.”
Hancock welcomed the continuation of the program.
“We’re extremely grateful to the NSW Government for making this funding available to our 129 surf clubs once again – ensuring they are fit-for-purpose is vital to their continued relevance and value.”
