Industry invited to help shape Council’s underground assets guide

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is calling on builders, developers, contractors, designers, engineers and other industry professionals to provide feedback on a draft guidance document that will help shape future building and development near underground infrastructure.

The draft, Building in Proximity to Underground Assets, has been developed to help industry better understand the Council’s requirements for building over or adjacent to existing underground pipe assets.

The Council is seeking practical feedback to ensure the document is clear, easy to use and aligned with current construction and engineering practices.

The draft document is available via the link below. Feedback is encouraged on the following areas:

  • Building over and adjacent to underground pipe assets
  • Construction scenarios and diagrams
  • Development guidelines
  • Non-compliant construction examples

The Council is particularly interested in feedback on:

  • whether the requirements are clear and consistent with current industry practice
  • technical issues or common construction challenges that should be addressed
  • opportunities to improve or streamline the assessment and approval process while maintaining the protection of underground assets
  • whether the document provides sufficient guidance for industry users.

Feedback closes on 24 July and can be emailed to jared.callaghan@pmhc.nsw.gov.au.

Industry input will help ensure the final guidance document is practical, effective and delivers better outcomes for both industry and the Council.

“Thank you for your time and contribution.” said Jared Callaghan, Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
