Lismore City Council has established a committee to oversee the proposed Walk of Honour as part of the future Lismore Boulevard Shared User Path project.
The committee follows Council securing funding for a major upgrade of the pedestrian and cycling link connecting the CBD, sports precinct and Lismore Square.
Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg said the Walk of Honour would recognise and celebrate people who have achieved distinction and made a lasting impact on the Lismore community through professional excellence, community contribution, cultural and creative achievement, sport and recreation, innovation or leadership.
“Council will call for expressions of interest from the community, giving residents the opportunity to nominate deserving individuals for inclusion in the Walk of Honour,” Krieg said.
The Walk of Honour was previously endorsed by Council and will be incorporated into the future Shared User Path design by building on the existing footpath alignment.
Council has adopted the committee’s terms of reference and eligibility guidelines. It has also appointed Councillors Hall, Bing, Dalton-Earls, Knight-Smith and Rob to the Walk of Honour Committee, with Krieg to serve as chair.
The committee will assess community nominations and make recommendations to Council on the successful honourees to be included in the Walk of Honour.
“Community involvement will be central to ensuring the Walk of Honour reflects the people who have helped shape Lismore’s history and identity,” he said.
Council will invite nominations in the coming months. Further information on the nomination process will be released as the project progresses.
The Lismore Boulevard Shared User Path project is funded through the NSW Government’s Get NSW Active 2025–2026 program, administered by Transport for NSW.
