Casino country rocker Billy Gudgeon is cranking up the volume, with a harder, rockier new single that he says shows exactly who he is as an artist.
“Redline” was released on Friday, 2 October. It is a driving country-rock track that reflects his live show and the direction he is taking his career.
The song was written by Shannon Beaumont long before the pair started playing it in his band. It then sat on the shelf for years before they dusted it off.
“It’s been sitting there for years,” Mr Gudgeon said.
“We picked it back up and I thought, ‘it’s got some legs’.”
The Casino artist, who grew up in Gulgong, said the song was a lot of fun to play live. It has a harder edge but keeps the country touches that make up his live sound.
“‘Redline’ is definitely the direction I’m trying to go more in,” he said.
“It reflects my live show more. I’m a country rock artist. This is me.”
The song is about that familiar feeling of wanting to get home to your partner, and it is pitched as a must for the summer driving playlist.
“It’s a driving song as the temperature heats up; it’s a good summer song,” he said.
“Redline” comes a few months after his last single, “Bigger Days, Better Nights”, and another song is already lined up for November.
For Mr Gudgeon, the run of new music is about building his career and getting back in front of audiences.
He is now looking ahead to the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the next stage of his career.
“I want to put myself back in the pool,” he said.
“I’m coming in with something a bit harder and stronger, a bit rockier.”
