Second rider dies after Booral crash

Two riders are dead and an 18-year-old driver has been charged after a utility towing a horse float rolled into two motorcycles at Booral on the Mid North Coast.

The crash happened about 10.20am on Sunday, 20 September, on The Bucketts Way near Gunns Gully Road.

Police say the utility, which was pulling a horse float, flipped and rolled before hitting the two motorcycles. Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended.

One rider, a 33-year-old man, died at the scene.

The other rider, a 72-year-old man, was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries. He was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

On Saturday, 3 October, investigators were told he had died in hospital.

The driver, an 18-year-old woman, was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. She did not need further treatment. The horse in the float was uninjured.

She was taken to Stroud Police Station, where she returned a breath analysis result of 0.053. She was then taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police set up a crime scene, and Crash Investigation Unit officers began an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Following those inquiries, the woman has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of negligent driving occasioning death, and negligent driving with no death or grievous bodily harm. She also faces charges of driving with a low range PCA and not complying with licence conditions.

She was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday, 23 November.
