Free fitness and wellness open day coming to Goonellabah

Goonellabah residents will have the chance to try a range of fitness activities for free when the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre (GSAC) hosts its Fitness and Wellness Open Day later this month.

The event will run from 8am to 11am on Saturday, 31 October, offering residents an opportunity to explore different exercise options, meet local health and fitness professionals and learn more about the centre’s facilities.

The free program will include come-and-try sessions in pickleball, Pilates, Zumba, spin, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and strength training.

Gentler activities, including Stretch & Recovery and Stepping On sessions, will also be available, along with pre-natal fitness sessions and guided gym tours.

Lismore City Council Leisure Facility Manager Natasha Everett said the event was designed to encourage people of all fitness levels to discover activities that suited their interests and abilities.

“Not everyone enjoys the same type of exercise and that’s the great thing about this event. Whether you’re interested in pickleball, group fitness, strength training or something more relaxed, there’s an opportunity to give it a go,” she said.

“Sometimes the hardest part is simply getting started. This is a chance to try different activities, meet the instructors and see what’s available in our community.”

“We want people to walk away having discovered something they enjoy, something that might become part of their regular routine.”

Local health and wellness providers will also host information stalls, giving visitors an opportunity to learn about services available in the community.

Giveaways will be offered throughout the morning, while the centre’s café will remain open.

All activities are free, with no bookings required. Participants can sign in on arrival and join any sessions that interest them.

The Fitness and Wellness Open Day will be held at GSAC, 50 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah, on Saturday, 31 October, from 8am to 11am.
