A new award honouring former Port Macquarie Hastings councillor Lisa Intemann will be handed out for the first time on Australia Day, as nominations open for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards.
Port Macquarie Hastings Council is calling on locals to nominate outstanding individuals, groups, and organisations for the awards. They will be presented during Australia Day celebrations on Tuesday, 26 January 2027.
The Lisa Intemann Community Spirit Award was unanimously supported by Council at its October meeting.
It will serve as a permanent reminder of her outstanding service to the Port Macquarie Hastings, and will recognise an individual, community group, or organisation that has made a significant contribution to community life.
“Our region is full of people who dedicate their time, energy and passion to go above and beyond for others. This is what makes our community special,” said Port Macquarie Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts.
“The awards are a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on their contributions and celebrate these remarkable people.”
Mayor Roberts encouraged residents to nominate a person or group that shows generosity, leadership, and community spirit.
This year’s categories are:
- Citizen of the Year, recognising an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Port Macquarie Hastings community
- Young Citizen of the Year, recognising an outstanding young person aged 25 or under by 26 January 2027
- Lisa Intemann Community Spirit Award, recognising an individual, community group, or organisation that has made a significant contribution to community life.
“Nominees can be volunteers, mentors, local clubs or community champions whose efforts are often behind the scenes,” said PMHC Group Manager Community and Customer Experience Lucilla Marshall.
“By nominating someone, you can help share their story and inspire others to get involved.”
Nominations close on Monday, 30 November.
