A familiar Nambucca Heads surf shop has welcomed new owners, with Sarah and Simon Barrow taking the helm at Coastal Curves Surf.

While the name, brands, and commitment to customer service remain unchanged, the Barrows bring fresh energy to the long-standing local business.

Originally from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the couple made the move to the Mid North Coast eight years ago. Now raising their young family, they say they’re embracing the new challenges and lifestyle that come with running a small coastal business.

“I grew up with sand in my hair and salt in my veins, so stepping into this role feels like a natural fit,” Sarah said.

“Running our own surf shop has always been a dream. Our family spends summer on the beach—at nippers with the kids or out in the surf with Simon. This isn’t just work for us; it’s a lifestyle. We’re excited to help locals and visitors gear up for everything the valley has to offer—whether it’s surf, sun or skate.”

The business was founded in 1996 by Jenny and Richard, who built Coastal Curves Surf while raising their own family in the valley. After nearly three decades, the couple has passed the reins to the Barrows.

“After many wonderful years serving the community, we felt it was the right time to step back,” Jenny and Richard said in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled to see a new family take over and continue the legacy.”

Locals looking for surfboards, apparel, or a gift- whether for someone else or themselves- can stop by the store to meet the new owners and support a long-standing family-run business.
