Transport for NSW will introduce the second phase of its interim school travel arrangements from Monday, 16 February, to support students in the Thora, Dorrigo and Bellingen areas affected by the closure of Waterfall Way.

The agency has worked with local operators to secure additional minibuses to run along Summervilles Road, the designated diversion route.

Subject to weather conditions, the new services are due to begin on Monday and will assist about 120 primary school students travelling to Chrysalis Steiner School at Thora.

The expansion follows the first tranche of services, which began on 9 February.

Phase two is designed to ensure students affected by the road closure continue to have access to school bus services.

Buses using Summervilles Road will be escorted by a pilot vehicle, with an additional single-lane traffic control point in place to support safe travel.

Transport for NSW said it is continuing to work with bus operators and schools and is providing families with travel information, including timetables, through schools.

The agency said some adjustments to the interim arrangements may be required in response to changing conditions and has advised families to monitor communications from their school.

Parents and carers are encouraged to register for a Transport-led SMS service, which provides updates on bus cancellations or changes due to weather or other unforeseen events.

The alternative arrangements are expected to remain in place for the duration of the Waterfall Way closure. Transport for NSW has not provided a confirmed date for the road’s reopening.

The agency thanked the community for its patience, cooperation and flexibility.
