WEEKLY UPDATE: Night works, road closures and blasting set to disrupt Coffs Harbour traffic

Coffs Harbour residents can expect traffic delays, detours and overnight noise next week as work intensifies on the long-running Coffs Harbour bypass.

Transport for NSW has advised of changed traffic conditions across several key routes, with single lane closures, reduced speed limits and temporary road closures likely to affect commuters, shift workers and nearby households.

Weekly Updates

Englands Road overnight closure

Englands Road (east) will be closed between 6pm and 7am on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from the Pacific Highway to the Englands Road Interchange to allow asphalt to be laid.

During those hours, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted via Isles Drive (north), adding extra travel time for residents in the area.

Shephards Lane Bridge and surrounding works

Single lane closures and short traffic stoppages will occur on and west of the new Shephards Lane Bridge from Monday to Friday as crews continue earthworks on the eastern side of the bridge.

Traffic lights will remain in place on the new bridge 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Further south, work will continue on the highway bridge over Pine Brush Creek, between the Luke Bowen Pedestrian Bridge and James Small Drive (north). A major concrete deck pour is scheduled for Tuesday, including early morning work from 4.30am to 7am.

Concrete pours must be continuous to ensure structural integrity, meaning nearby residents may notice sustained activity during those hours. Crews will also be on site on Sunday 1 March from 8am to 5pm, using hand tools only.

Controlled blast at Cut 16

A controlled blast is planned at Cut 16, between West Korora Road and Bruxner Park Road, on Friday 27 February between 1pm and 3pm. Residents may hear a loud blast during that window.

Ongoing highway and local road impacts

Between Monday and Friday, works including earthmoving, asphalt laying, drainage installation, kerb construction and noise wall installation will continue on the eastern side of the highway between the Sawtell Interchange and Englands Road.

Activity is scheduled:

  • Monday to Friday, 6am to 7am and 6pm to 8pm
  • Saturday, 7am to 8am and 1pm to 6pm

Single lane closures and reduced speed limits will affect sections of the Pacific Highway, including:

  • Both northbound and southbound lanes between West Korora Road and Campbell Close on Monday night (7pm to 6am) for vegetation maintenance
  • Both carriageways between south of Sawtell Interchange and north of Englands Road/Stadium Drive on Monday night (7pm to 6am)
  • The northbound carriageway between Sawtell Interchange and Englands Road/Stadium Drive on Tuesday night (7pm to 6am) for barrier relocation and asphalt works

Stadium Drive (westbound) between the highway and Ted Ovens Drive will have lane closures from Monday to Friday for drainage installation.

Bennetts Road will also be subject to weekday works to build local access roads, install drainage, lay asphalt and undertake landscaping.

Traffic control will be in place on James Small Drive (south) to manage heavy vehicle movements, and on West Korora Road north of Gatelys Road Tunnel, Mackays Road and the eastern end of Bruxner Park Road.

What residents need to know

The works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of rain or high winds. Emergency maintenance may also be carried out as required.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, observe reduced speed limits and follow traffic control directions.
