North Coast local Phil Jamieson is set to hit the road for one of his biggest solo tours to date, as he launches a new chapter of his career with fresh music and a national run of shows.
The Grinspoon frontman has released his latest single Weekends, the first taste of his upcoming second solo album 10Charlie, due for release on 14 August.
“Weekends. It’s a destination. It’s a place among the tall pines,” Jamieson said.
“It’s a restaurant / bar / coffee shop / diner. You can go to Weekends on a Monday. It’s a place to agree or disagree. The song is built around intimacy and hope. And it has some fun guitars.”
The new track sets the tone for a more personal record, with Jamieson describing 10Charlie as shaped by reflection and recent challenges.
“This album is much more personal than my first record,” he said.
“In times of intense turbulence, I’ve written what I’ve needed to hear. It’s a balm for my soul.”
To support the release, Jamieson will embark on the PJ AIR tour, a 44-date run spanning Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory between June and September.
The tour will focus on grassroots venues, from breweries and theatres to local pubs, reflecting the live music scenes that have long supported Australian artists.
“PJ AIR is a BIG adventure. My co-pilot is Ricky Albeck and I can’t wait to play for you all. Songs will be sung and stories will be told,” Jamieson said.
Several dates have been confirmed across the North Coast, including:
- Eltham Hotel, Lismore – Thursday 16 July
- Woopi Brewing Co – Friday 17 July
- Bellingen Brewery – Saturday 18 July
- Finnian’s, Port Macquarie – Sunday 19 July
- Flow Bar, Old Bar – Friday 31 July
The album sees Jamieson reunite with producer Oscar Dawson and collaborate with a range of artists including Davey Lane, Rob Muinos, Ben Edgar and Soph Ozard.
Tickets for the PJ AIR tour go on sale from 9am local time on Monday, 13 April.
