Coffs Harbour secures Qantas fare relief during Melbourne flight pause

Coffs Harbour Airport.

Qantas has announced a flight sale from Coffs Harbour to destinations across Australia, as the region faces a temporary pause to its direct Melbourne service.

The airline will suspend direct flights between Coffs Harbour and Melbourne for four weeks, from 18 May to 14 June, citing increased fuel costs and supply constraints as factors in consolidating some services.

City of Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams said the decision had prompted concern locally, with council advocating for the region’s connectivity.

She said she welcomed Qantas’ response, which includes a pricing commitment for affected passengers.

“I am happy they have taken our feedback and acted by basically assuring that anyone booking a Coffs to Melbourne flight via Sydney during the pause period will have it priced as if it was a direct service,” she said.

“The sale – against a backdrop of global cost-of-living challenges – signifies the airline’s commitment to Coffs and I thank them for that.

“I’d also like to call out Coffs Harbour Airport who have also gone in to bat for the region.

“I am committed to working with the airport and Qantas to advocate for the best possible air service for the community.”

The Qantas “Australia Red Tail Sale” runs until 28 April, unless sold out earlier, and includes discounted one-way fares from Coffs Harbour to a range of destinations.

Sale fares include Sydney from $109 and Melbourne from $159, for travel between 22 July 2026 and 26 March 2027.

Other discounted one-way fares from Coffs Harbour include Hobart from $179, Adelaide from $219, Cairns from $244, Dubbo and Wagga Wagga from $254, Canberra from $274, Perth from $360, and Darwin from $430.
