Lismore Council moves to revive former Greyhound Track site

The former Greyhound Track site at 1 Molesworth Street

Lismore City Council has resolved to begin negotiations with the Northern Rivers Junior Motorcycle Club and Jagun Alliance Corporation regarding the potential shared future use of the former Greyhound Track site at 1 Molesworth Street.

The resolution follows a community expression of interest (EOI) process that attracted 11 submissions outlining a range of future opportunities for the prominent site.

Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg said the decision marked an important step towards returning the currently dormant site to active community use following years of inactivity after the 2022 floods.

“This is a significant site in a key location, and Council wants to ensure its future use delivers strong community benefit,” he said.

“The proposals put forward highlighted opportunities focused on youth engagement, skills development and cultural outcomes, and Council will now work with the organisations involved to further explore what a shared-use arrangement could look like.”

The General Manager has been delegated authority to undertake consultation and negotiations with the organisations involved, with any future agreement to be considered by Council at a later date.

The former Greyhound Track site was gifted to Council earlier this year by Greyhound Racing NSW, creating an opportunity to reimagine the future of the land in line with community aspirations.

Council’s acquisition of the site remains subject to due diligence and finalisation of the transfer of title.

Further details will be provided as discussions progress.
