Man dies in Tweed Heads truck crash

A man has died after a truck crashed on the Pacific Highway at Tweed Heads West early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 2.25am today, Friday, 29 May, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Police from Tweed/Byron Police District arrived to find a truck had hit a barrier, trapping the driver.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews freed the driver, who was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A male passenger died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

Police established a crime scene and the Crash Investigation Unit has begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The Pacific Highway remains closed in both directions at Tweed Heads West, with diversions in place. Motorists can check livetraffic.com for updates.
