One of regional NSW’s most talked-about exhibitions is getting a send-off worthy of Indiana Jones, with Coffs Harbour’s Yarrila Arts and Museum opening after hours for an all-ages adventure quest next month.
Night at the Museum: RELICS Adventure runs from 5pm to 7pm on Friday 10 July at Yarrila Arts and Museum (YAM), with attendance capped at 400. Bookings are open now at yarrilaartsandmuseum.com.au.
The two-hour event is built around a self-guided quest through the museum, escape room-style, with participants collecting stamps as they complete activities and challenges across the exhibitions. Everyone who finishes the quest goes into the draw to win a RELICS prize pack. Fancy dress is optional, with prizes for best dressed.
Museum and Gallery Service Leader Carrie Kibbler said the evening would make the most of what YAM looks like after dark.
“Participants can work as a team – escape room-style – or solo to complete activities, solve challenges and collect stamps as they move through YAM. Everyone who completes the quest will go into the draw to win a RELICS prize pack.
“Gather your crew and prepare for an after-dark adventure at YAM – take on challenges, compete with friends and family, complete the quest and find out who will be crowned ultimate explorer.”
The night will include adult and children’s scavenger hunts across the Yaamanga (around here) and RELICS exhibitions, LEGO stop-motion animation and free-build challenges, a photo booth and dress-up station, a live drawing performance by Nikky Morgan-Smith in her solo exhibition Index Act, wearable artmaking activities, and a drawing station in the Peach & Wolf cafe.
The event is free to attend, though a RELICS ticket is required to access that exhibition and its bonus activities. The YAM Bar will be serving cocktails, craft beer and mocktails, while Peach & Wolf will have soup, toasties, hot chocolate and cinnamon scrolls.
Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams said the RELICS exhibition had been a significant moment for the city and the night event would be a fitting finale.
“Bringing RELICS to a regional location has been massive for Coffs Harbour and this will be one of your last chances to explore the exhibition at Yarrila Arts and Museum.
“YAM becomes even more mysterious at night-time and this special event will be the perfect start to a winter weekend on the Coffs Coast.”
