Double demerit points will apply for the holiday season

A man and a woman have been charged following an investigation into the alleged serious assault of a man at Toormina earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to Anderson Street, near Hobbs Crescent, about 5:40 am on February 2 after a member of the public found a seriously injured 27-year-old man.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man for a significant head injury before he was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition. He remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Coffs Harbour detectives established Strike Force Larsson to investigate the alleged assault.

Following a public appeal and extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 38-year-old man at Bellingen on June 12.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and tampering with evidence with intent to mislead a judicial tribunal.

The man was refused bail and appeared before the Bail Division of the Local Court on June 13, where he was again refused bail. He is due to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on August 11.

Following further inquiries, detectives arrested a 25-year-old woman at Toormina on Tuesday.

She was charged with being an accessory after the fact to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

The woman was refused bail and appeared before the Bail Division of the Local Court on Tuesday, where she was again refused bail. She is due to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on August 26.

Police will allege both offences are linked to the assault of the 27-year-old man at Toormina in February.
