Surf lifesavers from across the Myall Lakes have been named among the state’s best, with members of three local clubs selected as finalists in the Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence.

Members of Pacific Palms, Cape Hawke and Forster surf life saving clubs have been recognised across a range of categories for their dedication, leadership and contribution to the movement.

Myall Lakes MP Tanya Thompson congratulated the finalists and said the nominations reflected the strength of surf lifesaving across the region.

She said it was particularly encouraging to see members of different ages and areas of service recognised, with categories ranging from Young Surf Lifesaver of the Year to Facilitator of the Year.

“It is fantastic to see people of all ages being recognised, because that is exactly what makes our surf clubs so strong,” Thompson said.

“Our younger members are learning from people who have spent years giving back to their clubs, while also stepping up themselves and becoming the next generation of surf lifesavers and volunteers.

“These nominations are a wonderful recognition of the incredible people who give their time, energy and skills to surf lifesaving across the Myall Lakes.

“Every nominee should be extremely proud. While these awards recognise individual achievement, behind every nominee is a whole club community of volunteers, mentors, families and fellow members supporting them along the way.”

Thompson said surf clubs were an important part of coastal communities, providing beach patrols, emergency responses and water safety education.

“Our surf lifesavers are there keeping people safe on our beaches, responding when things go wrong and teaching the next generation about beach and water safety.

“They give an enormous amount of their own time to our community, and I’m very proud to see so many of our local members recognised at a state level.

“I wish all of our Myall Lakes nominees the very best for the Awards of Excellence.”
