Sporting clubs in the Lismore electorate can apply for grants of up to $3,000 to buy and maintain defibrillators.
The grants are available through the NSW Government’s 2026 Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program, with $500,000 allocated statewide.
Eligible sporting organisations can use the grants to buy, install and maintain automated external defibrillators (AEDs), as well as provide training in their use.
Lismore MP Janelle Saffin said the program would help improve safety at sporting facilities.
“Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time, and every minute without defibrillation reduces a person’s chance of survival,” Saffin said.
“Sporting clubs often face financial barriers to purchasing and maintaining an AED and this program helps more organisations access this essential equipment.”
More than 2,500 AEDs have been installed at community sport and recreation facilities across NSW since the program was introduced in 2017.
Defibrillators funded through this year’s program will be listed on the GoodSAM AED Registry, allowing members of the public and emergency responders to locate nearby devices during a cardiac emergency.
Applications close on October 7, 2026, or earlier if the available funding is exhausted.
