IRONMAN and Savour the Tweed in line for October tourism boom

Savour the Tweed

The North Coast is set to share in a bumper month of major events, with IRONMAN Port Macquarie and Savour the Tweed among the events backed by the NSW Government this October.

The Government says its October line-up is expected to pump more than $100 million into the state’s visitor economy.

The events calendar lines up with the spring school holidays and the October long weekend.

IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie are on the list of major events supported by the Government this month.

Savour the Tweed, on the Tweed Coast, is one of seven events backed through the Regional Event Fund.

Other regional events on the list include the Bathurst 1000, the Deni Ute Muster, Yours and Owls Festival in Wollongong, and a line-up of events at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.

“Spring is set to be a huge month for NSW, with major sporting, cultural and entertainment events bringing thousands of visitors and millions of dollars into our visitor economy,” said Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper.

“From the NRL Grand Finals and Rugby League World Cup to major events in our regions, the Minns Labor Government is delivering a strong pipeline of events that supports local businesses, jobs and communities right across NSW.”

In Sydney, the action starts on Sunday, 4 October with the NRL and NRLW Grand Finals at Accor Stadium.

The Rugby League World Cup kicks off on Thursday, 15 October, with 16 matches across Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong. The tournament is expected to bring more than 32,000 fans to NSW and inject over $19 million into the visitor economy.

“Major events may spark the decision to travel, but visitors are staying long after the final whistle or curtain call to immerse themselves in experiences across the state, supporting thousands of businesses and jobs that rely on year-round tourism,” said Destination NSW CEO Karen Jones.
