Coffs Harbour residents will return to the polls on Saturday, 12 December, to elect a new councillor following the resignation of Paul Amos.

The NSW Electoral Commission has confirmed the by-election date after Amos resigned earlier this week, leaving a vacancy on Coffs Harbour City Council.

The by-election will be conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission, with voters required to elect one councillor to fill the vacant position.

Eligible residents are being encouraged to check their enrolment details ahead of the vote, particularly those who have recently moved or become eligible to vote.

Voting is compulsory, with residents able to check or update their details through the NSW Electoral Commission website.

Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams said ensuring enrolment details were current was an important step in participating in the election.

“A by-election is an opportunity for the community to choose a candidate who will represent them on Council, so I encourage everyone who is eligible to vote to make sure their enrolment details are up to date,” she said.

“The City will continue to share information with the community about the by-election, including ways to vote, as arrangements are confirmed.”

Further information about voting arrangements is expected to be released by the NSW Electoral Commission early next week.

Council will also provide updates through its website and Facebook page, including details of candidate information sessions once confirmed.

Residents can find election information at elections.nsw.gov.au or through the Coffs Harbour City Council website.
