MidCoast Council is seeking community members to join two advisory groups, inviting locals to help shape decision-making on flood management and the region’s arts and creative industries.
Expressions of interest are now open for the Floodplain Management Reference Group, which will provide advice on the development and implementation of Floodplain Risk Management Plans across the local government area.
Council said flooding is an increasing reality for communities across the MidCoast, with the group set to play a key role in guiding how risks are managed into the future.
The plans developed with input from the reference group will cover a wide range of considerations, including reducing the impact of flooding on communities, limiting both private and public losses, and ensuring flood-prone land is recognised as a valuable resource rather than unnecessarily restricted.
They will also take into account broader social, economic, ecological and cultural factors, reflecting the complex nature of flood management in a diverse regional area.
Council is encouraging representatives from across the region to nominate, with expressions of interest closing at 4.30pm on Wednesday, 15 April.

At the same time, MidCoast Council is also calling for nominations to join its Arts and Creative Industries Reference Group, which provides strategic advice on supporting and growing the region’s creative sector.
The group plays an important role in guiding the implementation of the MidCoast Cultural Plan 2036 and advising on Council’s investment in local arts projects through the annual MidCoast Arts Support Program.
Members work collaboratively to strengthen the sector, build capacity, and create new opportunities for local artists and creative practitioners.
Council said it is looking for people with a passion for innovation and collaboration within the arts to help inform future planning and service delivery.
Nominations for the Arts and Creative Industries Reference Group are open until 30 April.
