Community invited to celebrate Byron Central Hospital’s 10-year anniversary

The community is invited to join celebrations marking the 10-year anniversary of Byron Central Hospital and recognise the staff, volunteers and supporters who have helped deliver healthcare services to the Byron region over the past decade.

The celebration will be held at the hospital on Wednesday, 20 May, with community members encouraged to attend a morning of festivities including a cake cutting, sausage sizzle and live music from a local busker.

The hospital officially opened on its greenfield site on Ewingsdale Road on 7 June 2016, bringing together teams and services from Byron Bay District Hospital and Mullumbimby and District Memorial Hospital, as well as community health centres in Bangalow, Brunswick Heads and Ocean Shores.

Built at a cost of $88 million, Byron Central Hospital introduced expanded healthcare services to the region, including an upgraded emergency department, inbuilt birthing baths in the maternity unit, enhanced X-ray and medical imaging services, and a new sub-acute mental health inpatient unit.

Northern NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Tracey Maisey said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the hospital’s contribution to the community over the past 10 years.

“Byron Central Hospital has played an important role in delivering high-quality healthcare closer to home for local residents,” Maisey said.

“We are proud of the dedication shown by our staff, volunteers and supporters, and we welcome the community to join us in celebrating this milestone.”
